"I have always been a teacher whether I realized it or not. Back in high school (when Ms. Yuhas was my teacher), I constantly helped students with their math assignments or proofread essays. I ignored lessons in other classes to read, much to the chagrin of my teachers (except Ms. Yuhas). I coached youth soccer. I instructed at an art center. I did not want to teach.

As a mechanical engineering student at the University of Georgia, I quickly realized that corporate life was not for me: I needed the freedom to be creative, and I needed a fulfilling profession where I could have meaningful interactions with others and make a difference. My love of reading and writing pushed me through the looking glass: I became a public high school teacher and soccer coach. I could share my love of stories and characters. I could, as Derek Zoolander once dreamed, “teach kids how to read good and do other stuff good too.”
I remember first hearing about William & Reed from my youngest brother, Will. He was thriving in an environment where teachers had the ability to teach small classes of driven students - and I mean actually teach rather than manage behavior or teach to a standardized test. He had all of my old favorite teachers from when I was a student at Northview. He, a kid who came home from the touted public schools around here crying every day, actually enjoyed school. I believe in this institution because I saw one of the real life success stories it produced.
The core ideals of the school align with my own - I believe in administering an education that is intentional and practical, maintaining a classroom built on relationships and integrity, and fostering an environment where students are encouraged to be creative and unafraid to try. My goal is to develop a group of exceptional thinkers, lifelong learners, and competent readers and writers.
I currently live in Athens with my wife, Sarah, and our dog, Wes. We love taking advantage of the long weekends and summers (Sarah is an elementary school teacher) and going on adventures in the great outdoors, tending the garden, or roaming about town."
