Education

PhD, English, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 2019

M.A. English, University of Georgia at Athens, 2011

B.A. English, University of Georgia at Athens, 2009 (magna cum laude)

"My love of teaching arises from a need to share the things that I love with others. At the home I share with my wife, dogs, and cat, I spend all the time I can spare playing music, writing poetry, hiking, cultivating, and studying the arts. Teaching others the uses of language and culture is an extension of everything that I find life-affirming and motivating. On the wall of my classroom above my desk, I posted the words: “music, poetry, art, cinema, philosophy, nature” as an open declaration of what I value most and find most animating–my raison d’etre. Through the vital practices of writing, speaking, and analyzing language, I hope students can find their own raison d’etre and a voice with which to celebrate it."
