"Inspired by my own math and science teachers’ passions for their subjects and their commitments to lifelong learning, I am dedicated to sharing my love of learning with my students. As a teacher, I believe my role is to create a classroom community where students feel supported, encouraged, and challenged. I want to empower students to ask questions, not just to answer them. I hope to make my students cognizant of the processes by which they learn, so that even those who have a limited interest in mathematics can become more adept at critical thinking, creative thinking, and problem solving. I want my students to know that I believe in them and in their ability and desire to succeed.
I love William & Reed because it is structured in a way that aligns with my core beliefs on how education should be: time in school should be utilized efficiently so that children have time to be children and not just students; the relationship between the teacher and the student is of utmost importance in a child’s education, and small classes are essential for these relationships to thrive; and each person learns in a different way, and an environment that allows educators to recognize each child’s strengths and weaknesses is critical for forward progress. I was the science teacher during W&R’s inaugural year, and I left after the first year in order to stay home with my then infant and toddler daughters. I always hoped to return as a member of the W&R faculty, and I am thrilled to be back as a member of the math department now!
I grew up in Orlando, FL, but my husband Jeff and I have lived in the Atlanta area for almost ten years. We have two little girls – Kaitlyn and Caroline – and together, our family loves reading books, spending time outside, and playing games. I am so happy to be back on this team of stellar administrators and teachers, and I look forward to getting to know your family."
